TDK Co-Sponsors Regional IT Skills and Talent Survey

Technology Talent Gap Spurs Community-Wide Initiative to Solve the Problem

ST. LOUIS (May 3, 2018) – TDK Technologies, a leader in providing both IT staffing and project solutions for St. Louis area clients, is a co-sponsor for a community-wide effort to understand and plan for future technology employment needs.

ITEN, the St. Louis-based entrepreneurial support organization and catalyst for technology innovation, has commissioned a short online survey to understand and plan for St. Louis’ technology jobs and skills needs. Funding for the survey is being provided by TDK Technologies, Avison Young and Gateway to Innovation.

“It is critical that St. Louis has a measurable plan to address the technology demand of its current and prospective employers. This survey is the first step to making that plan a reality,” said Kristin Tucker, Managing Principal at TDK Technologies.

TDK added nearly 40 software developers and other technology professionals in the first quarter of 2018 and is completing the second expansion of its Chesterfield-based headquarters in a year.  Amid the company’s growth, executives have encountered the realities of a tight technology skills market in the St. Louis region.

“A community-wide effort is required to solve the technology skills shortage within our region. There are many more technology jobs available than there are qualified applicants to fill them. The results of this survey will help focus efforts to address the gaps,” said David Kocs, Principal at TDK Technologies and Executive Committee member for Gateway to Innovation (the region’s largest conference for technology leaders).

The email survey will be conducted by Peters Marketing Research. Questions will be sent to a targeted list of 3,500 individuals currently employed in technology leadership roles in the St. Louis region. Respondents will include individuals at both startups and established companies.

ITEN expects to have a final report on the survey results published within eight to ten weeks. This research is designed to measure the core IT skills and talent needs in the region, which will provide an inventory of the current situation and outlook for the next few years that would inform a community-wide conversation to solve the problem.
